I spent the last week at Fashion Week volunteering as an Usher to get experience in Events. It was an awesome week. I saw many different things from Artistic people to celebrities to models eating, and the ticket dramas that went on.
They brought in a special team to take care of Fashion Week seating - Miro House (http://miro-house.com/miro.html?country=au). Fashion week ran from the Tuesday to the Sunday and I worked the Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. I found out on the Sunday that the Miro House team only covered the Tues - Fri. (Which I still find a little weird they didn't do the whole week).
There was some ticket issues during a show on the Friday in which was the moment I learnt how important it is to get ticketing right for a smooth start to the show. This was nothing however to the bad ticketing on the Sunday.
Sunday was another issue all together. It was chaos and a complete mess. I had no idea who was organising us all. Some lady come in first thing, didn't introduce herself to us, I had no idea who she was or what her role was and made all the ushers go out front and put pamphlets out which was sweet, as we had a few minutes to spare then we waited in a group for next instructions in which she yelled at us all so rudely in front of everyone to not just stand around. We are volunteering our time to the event, we do not have to be there and we were just following her instructions and she was not thankful at all, just a complete bitch in which I ended up avoiding her the rest of the day. She has told us to go stand out front giving pamphlets to people. It was very windy out there, so I stood out there for about two mins but I was wearing a skirt which kept blowing up and my hair was blowing everywhere, this was not the job I had signed on for so I thought stuff this, I am going inside. Which luckily I did. I went to the green room which is where we are supposed to wait before being called to go and do our thing setting up for the shows and Caden (in charge of the volunteers) was like where are all my volunteers? - in a panic I might add. At this point the bitch lady had showed up in there at the same time and I said to Caden right in front of her, they are all out front. Turns out he needed us desperately to make up the goody bags in time for the show, in which it then ran late.
I don't care who you are or what you do, people should not treat other people so bad! Life is too short for awful behaviour. I do not respect people like that at all and refuse to be treated in such a bad manner. Besides all the mess that went on Fashion Week was pretty awesome!
My favourite show I saw was Phoenix Makeup. It was sooooo fun and colourful and all about the 80s, which is an era I love! The show had a couple stars in it which were Kimberly Crossman and Bronwyn Turei and had awesome music and creative makeup of course. It also featured a bit of flashdance and Gem and the Holograms.
I saw other celebrities too - Keisha Castle Hughes, who I know personally, she was with Antonia Prebble. There was also Nicole Whippy, Sara Tetro, my fav Colin Mathura-Jeffree, JayJay and Dom from the Edge and more. It wouldn't be a successful Fashion show without some recognised faces in the crowd would it :-)
In the end I had a enjoyable week and learnt some things which was my main reason for volunteering, as much experience as I can get as possible is my goal.
All I want to do is be in the events world, though at this stage I really do think I am leaning more towards the design side of events but it wont hurt to learn about the industry as a whole.

Just a little about Me & this Blog.
Hellooo
As a Wedding and Events Planner in training, I thought I would start a blog where I could share things that are in the events industry that I have been or would like to learn about, that inspires me or is just interesting.
Current Event Planners that inspire me are David Tutera, Colin Cowie, Marley Marjcher and Preston Bailey, they are all amazing!!! However, I live in New Zealand and they are all located in USA so I wont be seeing any of their work in person anytime soon. But I have started collecting their books or have hired them at the library in the meantime. I hope this blog will eventually help other people or inspire others and help to get my name out there. I would eventually like to set up shop in East Auckland because I don't really know of anyone out this way. But firstly I would like to get a job with a company to gain experiences and learn plenty. I have lots of ambition for the future in this industry, its my dream and hopefully soon my reality.
If you have anything you think might be something I could write about please feel free to suggest a subject or an area in an event you would like to get some inspiration or information on, just ask whether its table settings, flowers, lighting etc and we could both learn about it together as I explore.
Thank You for taking in interest into my future
Cheers
